Saline Supply Now Adequate

The Kidney Community Emergency Response Coalition (KCER) has been working with other stakeholders to monitor and resolve the shortage of Normal Saline that has plagued dialysis facilities.  While there are many reports on the recent nationwide shortage, KCER has advised the Network that because Saline manufacturers have been importing supplies from Europe, supplies are currently adequate, and recommends that dialysis facilities restock their inventory.  Manufacturers consider the imports “temporary,” so shortages are possible again if manufacturing capacity is not expanded.  The FDA’s web page on the shortage can be found at http://www.fda.gov/Drugs/DrugSafety/ucm382255.htm.
