HIPAA and Public Health Agencies Fact Sheet

The HHS Office for Civil Rights and Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology have released a new 10-page Fact Sheet that explains how the HIPAA Rules permit disclosure of Protected Health Information (PHI) to support public health activities authorized by state or federal law and conducted by public health agencies.  It also gives examples of sharing PHI in support of other important public health policies.  Find the Fact Sheet at https://www.healthit.gov/sites/default/files/12072016_hipaa_and_public_health_fact_sheet.pdf .
