The Kidney Community Emergency Response (KCER) Coalition seeks patient, family, and caregiver volunteers to serve on a national patient advisory council. KCER is the coordinator and central point of contact for the dialysis community in emergency or disaster situations, as well as during other national crises that affect the well-being of the dialysis community. To ensure the patient’s voice is incorporated in all activities, KCER is organizing a National KCER Patient and Family Engagement Learning and Action Network (N-KPFE-LAN) that includes representation from patients, families, and caregivers. This LAN will focus on topics chosen by its patient, family, and caregiver members, and will provide a patient perspective for efforts to improve emergency/disaster preparedness and response for the ESRD population.
KCER asks all facilities to post a copy of a flyer, which you can find at https://www.nwrn.org//images/pdf/KPFE_LAN.pdf , in an area of the facility where it would be visible to all patients, and to distribute copies to patients, family members, and/or caregivers who may be interested in volunteering to work to improve ESRD emergency and disaster preparedness on the national level. KCER asks that interested individuals return the flyer to them by April 15, 2016. Questions can be directed to Beverly Whittet at 813.865.3317 or BWhittet@nw7.esrd.net . KCER’s objective is to have at least two representatives on the LAN from each of the eighteen Network areas. Similar activities have involved mostly conference calls and occasional face-to-face meetings where travel expenses are covered, but KCER has not provided an estimate of financial and time requirements, so interested volunteers should inquire before committing.
