5/6+ Nat’l Nurses Week

National Nurses Day is May 6, 2017, and National Nurses Week is May 6-12, 2017.  ANA (with one N) has declared 2017 to be The Year of the Healthy Nurse. SC 7/18 NW18 Quality Conference

Save the date for the July 18, 2017 HealthInsight ESRD Network 18 Quality Conference on Improving Patient Engagement and the Patient Experience of Care.  The conference will span 8am-3pm PDT at California Endowment in downtown Los Angeles.  Topics will include palliative care, advanced care planning tools and skills, emergency preparedness, violence prevention, and more.  Continuing Education credits will be provided to RN’s, PCT’s and Social Workers.  Registration information and a complete agenda will be available soon.

4/30 Free ANNA CE on Pediatric CKD

ANNA members can read the Nephrology Nursing Journal article Children and Adolescents with CKD: A Population at Risk for More Than Just Kidney Disease through April 30, 2017 and earn free CNE credit online.  The article addresses the relationship between pediatric CKD and health-related quality of life.  For more information see https://www.annanurse.org/article/free-cne .  ANNA offers members a different free CNE opportunity every month.

9/30 NHSN Annual Training

The Dialysis Event training course is now available on the Dialysis Event homepage.  Every NHSN user must complete re-training annually, before September 30, by re-reading the Dialysis Event Protocol at https://www.cdc.gov/nhsn/pdfs/pscmanual/8pscdialysiseventcurrent.pdf , and taking the online training course at https://nhsn.cdc.gov/nhsntraining/courses/2016/C18/ .  To properly identify yourself and get training credit for your facility and yourself, you must enter your First Name, Last Name, email address, 5-digit facility “OrgID,” and Network Number before completing the test.

The email address entered must be the email address associated with your SAMS account.  You can identify the correct email address, and your 5-digit facility OrgID, by:

  • Log in to https://sams.cdc.gov
  • Click “NHSN Reporting” and log in to your facility
  • Click on the username in the top-right corner
  • Copy the email address under “My Info”
  • Copy the 5-digit OrgID

5/23 Zero Infections Webinar

On May 23, 2017, the American Society of Nephrology will initiate their webinar series on Targeting Zero Infections, with Targeting Zero Infections: Where Do We Begin?  The series will address the urgent need to enhance infection control and prevention practices for all infectious threats in US dialysis facilities.  ASN invites medical directors, nephrologists, nurses, technicians, nephrology fellows, and others to participate.  Registration is free, and continuing education credits are available.  For more information and registration see
