DFC & QIP Conference Calls

CMS will hold a series of National Provider Calls on Dialysis Facility Compare (DFC) and the ESRD Quality Incentive Program (QIP) in July.  They include…

• July 10, 2014: Rollout of the DFC 5-Star Rating.  CMS will add a 5-Star Rating system to DFC in October 2014.  Facilities will be able to see and comment on their Rating during the July DFC Comment Period.  For details and registration see  http://www.cms.gov/Outreach-and-Education/Outreach/NPC/National-Provider-Calls-and-Events-Items/2014-07-10-Dialysis.html.

Benicar/Olmesartan Alert Revised

The FDA has announced that after review, it has revised its previous warning about possible increased risk of cardiovascular events when diabetic patients use olmesartan to reduce blood pressure.  Olmesartan is sold as Benicar, Benicar HCT, Azor, Tribenzor, and Generics.  While the FDA concludes that benefits outweigh risks, they are asking that information from some of the studies they reviewed be included in the drug label.  For details see http://www.fda.gov/Safety/MedWatch/SafetyInformation/SafetyAlertsforHumanMedicalProducts/ucm402616.htm.

NHSN Reporting Deadline

Facilities must complete submission and editing of their January, February, and March Dialysis Event data into NHSN by June 30, 2014 in order to meet QIP NHSN Reporting Requirements for PY2016.

ICH-CAHPS Registration Deadline

The deadline for 2014 ICH-CAHPS registration is June 30, 2014.  For details see https://ichcahps.org/GeneralInformation/Announcements/tabid/269/EntryId/215/Default.aspx.

QIP, DFC, and DFR Actions

All Facility Administrators and Medical Directors should by now have received instructions from the Network and from CMS about their QIP PSR, DFC, and DFR reports.  Please contact the Network if you have not.  Facilities will have from July 15 to August 15, 2014 to submit comments, request clarification, and request formal review.
